The
Flambeau and Chippewa River Valley of Wisconsin- a million
acres of forests, farms, lakes and streams. Lying in
the heart of the legendary Chippewa and Flambeau River
Valleys, Rusk County is 2/3 forest, and 1/3 farmland.
Over 100 lakes in the region range in size from a few
acres to Lake Holcombe with 3,890 acres and Lake Flambeau
with 1, 745 acres of water; miles of trout streams;
the Chippewa Flambeau, Thornapple and Jump Rivers. These
sparkling lakes and rivers are abundant with fish: trout,
walleye, panfish, northern pike and muskie. Canoeing,
water sports, hunting, camping, hiking, picnicking,
four wheeling, and golf provide healthy enjoyable recreation
in fresh Wisconsin air.
For
the sportsman, the forests provide good hunting for
deer (the Flambeau/Chippewa Valley is known for its
trophy bucks), bear, grouse, squirrels, and other game.
Winter fans enjoy skiing, skating, tobogganing, snowmobiling,
and ice fishing. The area is host to the finest network
of marked and groomed snowmobile trails in North America
in addition to miles of cross country skiing trails.
Agriculture
and forestry rank first in the region, with dairying
the main source of farm income; also beef, cattle, and
poultry. Hay, corn, and oat crops grow well; vegetables,
fruit, and many wild berries thrive. Most farms have
some marketable forest products.
The
region has over a dozen major manufacturing plants as
well as dairy processing, lumber mills, hatcheries,
mink ranches, deer farms and many others. The main city,
Ladysmith, is located on the beautiful Flambeau River.
It is the county seat of Rusk county and has a population
of nearly 4,000. It boasts an excellent shopping mall,
airport with lighted blacktop runway, churches of all
denominations, hospital, two radio stations, two nursing
homes, fine public and parochial schools, and an accredited
four-year college, Mt. Senario.

SPRING
is when the geese wing north, and bird watchers
bring binoculars and notebooks. It's the beginning
of trout season and the thoughts of parking your
RV and pitching your tent.

SUMMER
brings warm weather sports and lots of fresh clean
air. You can swim, fish, canoe, water ski, pontoon,
and play golf. There's the promise of picnics
and just plain loafing.

When
the leaves begin to turn, and the nights become
brisk, FALL is upon us. You can hunt uncrowded
areas for birds, rabbits, grouse, bear, and deer,
or just take a drive and enjoy nature's beautiful
artwork.

WINTER's
mantle of white affords an invitation to toboggan,
ski, ice fish, or snowmobile. The beauties of
nature are impossible to describe.
|
You
can enjoy a veritable scenic wonderland of rolling wooded
country on fine roads. A trip here can be very rewarding,
not only in seeing the beautiful trees, and enjoying
a great deal of wildlife, but you'll appreciate the
friendliness of informality of the "North"
country. Won't you come and join us for the four seasons
of living, fun and play?
